Copyright

Intellectual property encompasses three major areas : Copyright, Trademark and Patent. Copyright protects expression in any form, trademark protects names, and patents protect ideas and inventions.

A Copyright helps to protect creative expression that is reduced to a tangible form, in the form of a book, music, computer program, screenplay, painting, photograph, or motion picture.
Registering your creative work with the India Copyright Office is essential. In reality, Copyright protection is automatic, once an author reduces his idea in a tangible form without having to do anything.

Then, why register for copyright protection?
Copyright registration ensures a public record of your copyright. Everyone in the world is put on notice that you have applied for and claim copyright protection under the Copyright laws.
You will be able to legally proceed against anyone for copyright infringement once you have filed for copyright protection with the Indian Copyright Office.
No damages can be obtained for any infringement of copyright in an unpublished work , that has occurred before your copyright application.
To protect your work, obtaining copyright protection under the copyright laws is a necessary step to take.

Is a copyright protection worldwide?
Copyright is recognized almost worldwide under the Berne Convention and as per the applicable law of its member nations.
